Local Lifestyle

Once a mostly industrial area but now featuring mid-century homes alongside newer developments and rural farms, North Boulder has a ton of housing options for those looking to embrace the health-conscious and outdoor, active lifestyle so typical of Boulder.

The area has experienced rapid growth and has attracted a variety of people from families to young artists to some of the craft breweries and wineries that Colorado has become known for. Newer developments have focused on sustainability, a concept near and dear to the outdoor-loving Boulder community.

Dining, Entertainment and Shopping

At the core of this residential area are two unique grocery shopping markets. The Ideal Market was originally an independent grocery store offering fresh organic produce and still retains its unique visual style and focus on fresh food in its current incarnation as a Whole Foods Market. Lucky's Market is an independent grocery retailer with an additional location in nearby Fort Collins. They believe that good nourishing food should be available to everyone, and one taste of a treat from their bakery will assure you that they truly are dedicated to bringing everybody an affordable taste of the good stuff.

The North Boulder food scene is quite diverse, and one delicious example of the food influence from New Mexico is Santo. This restaurant is a love letter from Chef Hosea Rosenberg to the cuisine of his hometown of Taos and northern New Mexico. Chef Rosenberg of Top Chef fame also owns the restaurant Blackbelly and Blackbelly Butchery, Boulder’s only independent whole animal butchery.

Things to Do

Living in Boulder is all about getting outside, whether that means getting fit on one of the many hiking trails or meeting up with friends to enjoy the stunning Colorado weather and scenery.

A favorite way for locals to get outside and hang with friends while they are at it is the Thursday Night Cruiser Ride. This relaxed bike ride through the charming North Boulder neighborhoods is wholesome fun and frolic you won’t want to miss. Just make sure you wish bystanders the traditional “Happy Thursday” as you bike past.

A great location for spending time with family and friends, enjoying a picnic, or playing sports is North Boulder Park. This park has everything a Boulderite could ask for, from sports fields to fitness equipment suitable for teens and adults alike, to a place to get some ski laps in when it snows, to play equipment for the littlest ones.

For outdoor enthusiasts looking to get fit on local hiking and biking trails, North Boulder has the Wonderland Lake trail system and the even more challenging Mount Sanitas and Sanitas Valley Loop Trail.

If getting fit indoors is more your speed, drop in the North Boulder Recreation Center and lift some weights in the gym, swim some laps in the pool, drop in on a fitness class, or just unwind in the sauna or hot tub.
